This temporary installation in Carlisle, “Constructing the landscape” , was part of my Bespoke Mountain series. Commissioned for the cultural event organised by the artists collective, freerange artists, to support the city’s bid for Capital of Culture.- this incongruous and slghtly uncomfortable looking sculpture, occupied a. very straight looking, bedded out, municipal planter.
An extremely old and rusty tractor hood (from the farm I grew up on), rested on the soil and , on closer inspection, looking through the windows, a landscape of glass, wood, stone and slate and model scale figures revealed itself. Intended to combine aspects of architecture with the landscape, the built and the natural environment, history and the past with elements of modern and post-modern architecture- the piece was made in response to the theme of Carlisle’s bid which was “the city in the landscape”.
