For five years I worked for a small organisation called TAS – a therapeutic arts organistion based in Waltham Forest, East London.
We worked with referred, at risk and excluded children in small groups. Projects were creatively led by me and a small team of experienced professionals. Most of this work was supported by creative therapists (art, dance and music) whom I worked with collaboratively. The projects were many and varied: short holiday projects lasting a few days; an after school project lasting 2 years; a group of boys in a pupil referral unit…
This was always sensitive work with often very vulnerable, hard to reach children, who I feel extremely privileged to have worked with.
Our aims were to raise self esteem by offering the children an open creative space to express themselves, develop their emotional health, cope with their own behaviour and ultimately be happier.
